1. Who will be cleaning our carpet?
- A friendly, experienced, owner/family member. All three “Sunsets” are individually owned and operated. With owner/operators you’ll typically get their best because they know the value of their customers satisfaction and word of mouth.
2. How careful will you be with my house as you clean my floor?
- We will bring 3-inch-wide hoses (that might look a lot larger) into your home. They look industrial and certainly different from what you use for household cleaning. While they are made of plastic and lighter than they look, we place corner guards to protect your walls and baseboards. We also wipe the hoses clean with disinfectants and dry them completely after every use.
- We place floor mats at the entrance to the house, between rooms (especially between carpet and hardwood) to avoid dragging in dirt or anyone slipping.
- We pay special attention to protect the bottom of your furniture, drapes, bed skirts, etc., by covering or tucking them up when spraying cleaning solutions.
3. Do I need to prep my house for cleaning? If so, how much?
- Please clear areas of all small items (toys, etc.) and remove or protect easily breakable objects.
- Please remember your pet’s needs to unfamiliar environment of noise level (though it will not be louder than a vacuum cleaner), smell, or people.
4. Does furniture need to be moved?
- Majority of people leave large furniture in place as it is the open areas that needs professional cleaning.
- We slide chairs, couches, tables, etc., as we see need or if requested.
5. How much time will the cleaning take?
- A typical 2-bedroom house will take approximately 2 hours. Larger households, especially with the combination of carpet and tile floors, take a longer time.
6. How fast does my carpet dry after being cleaned?
- Typically, it dries in 4-6 hours. Factors such as extra work done on heavily soiled carpet or spots, extra thick carpet, and humidity of weather might result in a longer drying time.
- We will provide foot covers for every member of the household after the cleaning is completed so that you may be able to step on the carpet if you need to before it is dry.
- Please remember to use caution when walking onto a smooth floor from damp carpet as it will be slippery.
7. What types of cleaning solutions do you use?
- We prefer to use Biokleen® solutions, which are one of the safest and greenest product on the market we can find.
- For tougher stains and cleaning problems, we use stronger cleaning solutions accordingly, all of which are approved by EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
8. How often do you suggest my carpet to be cleaned?
- EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recommends that carpets be cleaned every 6-12 months for a small household, and every 3-6 months for a larger household, especially with pets.
- We recommend more frequent cleaning for households with members with allergy or asthma, pregnant women, and the elderly.
- After hosting a big party or family gathering, we recommend that the carpet be cleaned sooner than waiting for the next maintenance cleaning; we can always schedule the following maintenance from the date of your last cleaning.
9. What other options are there to Steam/hot water extraction cleaning?
- The main other process is the “dry” method or “encapsulation” The idea is to apply a chemical that would surround the dirt particles and coat them so that they will not reattach to the fibers. Most residential customers have been unsatisfied with the results of the dry method, however it can be an option in commercial cleaning situations.
10. Does urine odor come back?
- Except for the Restoration Treatment (removing and cleaning both sides of the carpet, replacing the pad and reinstalling the carpet), depending on the severity of the problem, there is no guarantee that it won’t come back. However, we can improve the condition of it to the satisfaction of majority of our customers. For more information, please refer to our Deodorizing page.
11. What is an enzyme treatment?
- Enzymes are produced by “good” bacteria. They break down the urine and other natural contaminants as bacteria feed on them, making it easier for them to detach from the carpet/upholstery.
12. Can enzymes break down the pet vomit stains?
- If your pet food uses 100% natural ingredients, enzymes most likely work very effectively within a reasonable amount of set time for the stains. However, enzymes won’t work on artificial food dyes.
13. Then what can you do to treat the vomit stains with food dyes?
- See our Stain Removal page, please.
